Qlik Sense extensions are a way that anyone can easily implement enhanced functionality or visualizations not available “out of the box”.  They create new ways to visualize data and enhance how users can interact with the app.  They can integrate with other systems via API and do it all using open standards like JavaScript.  Today I want to walk you through some extensions that I have found useful.

  • 3rd Party Engine Connector Qlik Sense Extensionscreen-shot-2016-12-29-at-3-28-32-pm

This extension serves as a gateway allowing you to call services in real time for Analytics/Statistical engines like Matlab, R, Python, SAS, etc.  I found this very helpful.  It allowed me to quickly utilize the ARIMA function in R without doing any code to socialize advanced statistical analytics to the stakeholders.  The extension of course is not limited to R.  It is agnostic and can use any package to provide advanced analytics in your app.  Download and learn more about this extension here: http://branch.qlik.com/#!/project/5756d6de3cc4c57c9d9f6346

  • Narratives for Qlik:screen-shot-2016-12-29-at-3-28-40-pm

The Narratives for Qlik extension is a very handy extension that uses NLG (Natural Language Generation), a subset of Artificial Intelligence, to turn structure data into a story, highlighting the most important aspects the data is showing.  A lot of times my users use the data from the dashboard to present in PPT’s to leadership.  The Narratives that automatically get generated have been extremely efficient in allowing them to add text to the PPT without having to write it out themselves.  There is an on premise version if you’re concerned about data security.    Learn more about Narratives for Qlik: /bardess-group-partners-with-narrative-science/

  • Bardess KPI Chart: screen-shot-2016-12-29-at-3-28-58-pmThe Bardess KPI chart not only allows multiple dimensions, conditional colors and fonts,  it also enables you to add a trending chart showing how your KPI is trending over time adding a lot more value to what you are measuring.

  • App On-Demand:   screen-shot-2016-12-29-at-3-29-07-pmApp On-Demand is a way to take user interactions and ‘on-the -fly’ create a brand-new analysis in a new application.  All of this is after (?) applying advanced statistical analytics and combining outside data sources to the brand new generated application.  Please visit /library/demos/ to learn more about App on Demand.

As you can see, using Qlik Sense Extensions will add value by helping you to easily implement enhanced functionality and visualization of your Qlik Sense apps.   I encourage you to visit the Qlik development community @ http://branch.qlik.com/ where you will be able to share and collaborate on projects.  There are many great projects and extensions available for download.   If you have a favorite extension, please share it in the comments section.
