On June 12, 2014, Fairfield/Westchester SIM held a “Data Discovery through Visual Analytics” panel discussion at the Hyatt Hotel in Greenwich, CT.  Joe DeSiena, President of Consulting Services at Bardess Group Ltd. and an Executive Committee Trustee of NJ SIM, was the event moderator leading an interactive discussion around the evolving landscape of the Business Intelligence marketplace.  Panel members discussed how Data Discovery tools like QlikView, Tableau, and Spotfire are creating self-service reporting platforms for business users freeing IT to focus on critical data quality and governance issues and opening the door for Big Data applications.  The event included 60 IT executives with interest in implementing these solutions in their corporations. The focus of the discussion was on how these top Data Discovery tools compare to traditional BI – the complexities of deployment and the resultant benefits achieved.
“Gartner sees a “shifting tide of BI platform requirements, moving from reporting-centric to analysis-centric, (meaning) the majority of BI vendors will make governed data discovery capabilities an expansion of, and the prime competitive capability for, their BI platform offerings.” Visual Analytics solution providers understand the changing requirements of enterprise BI buyers – dynamic analytical tools, rapid deployment capabilities, predictive modeling and simulation.”
Joe was able to lend his expertise in Big Data and Advanced Analytics along with the implementation of integrated data discovery platforms providing interactive and useful examples from his experience with Fortune 500 clients.
